Fight Mayfair gym

A man is in hospital with head injuries after trying to fight people in a Mayfair gym.

Police were called this morning to Virgin Active on North Row, W1 following reports of a man in his early 20s ‘behaving erratically’ and fighting other customers.

He was detained after trying to fight people, but later fell unconscious after sustaining a head injury. He was taken to hospital by ambulance where he remains in a non life threatening position.

A spokesperson for the Met said: “Police were called at 8.05hrs on Tuesday 7 March to a gym in North Row W1 after a man was reported to be behaving erratically and trying to fight people.

“Police taser was discharged and the man, in his early 20s was detained.

“Shortly afterwards the man became unresponsive and was transported to hospital, where he remains. His condition has been assessed as non life threatening.”

Gym members were informed by Virgin at 9am this morning that the health club had to suddenly close ‘due to unforeseen circumstances’.

A police scene is still in place, and the gym remained closed on Tuesday evening. Virgin Active have since confirmed the club will reopen on Wednesday at 6am.

In line with protocol, the Met have informed its Directorate of Police Standards who are responsible for the conduct of officers.
