A construction worker plunged to his death while working on a site near a luxury Mayfair hotel yesterday afternoon.
The man, in his 30s, was pronounced dead shortly after falling from a height near the five-star May Fair Hotel on the corner of Stratton Street and Berkeley Street.
Emergency services including an air ambulance attended the scene at 1.51pm on Thursday, with the first paramedics arriving within five minutes.
The man’s next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from officers.
Both Stratton and Berkeley Streets remain closed as an investigation into the incident, which occurred within minutes of Piccadilly and Green Park, continues.
A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: ‘Police were called at around 13:51hrs on Thursday, 9 July following reports that a man had fallen from height on a construction site at the junction of Berkeley Street and Stratton Street, W1.
‘Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service. Sadly, a man in his 30s was pronounced dead at the scene. His next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.
‘Berkeley Street and Stratton Street have been closed while enquiries continue. The Health and Safety Executive have been informed about the incident.’
