A murder investigation has been launched after a young man was found unconscious following a stabbing in Westminster.

Officers were called to Abbey Orchard Street in SW1, minutes from Parliament Square, just after 10pm on Friday, March 27.

Two men, aged 18 and 21, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody.

Farmanullah Sherzad, 26 was found at the scene with stab wounds, where he was treated by paramedics.

He was declared dead after being taken to a nearby hospital.

Mr Sherzad’s next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from specialist officers.

A special post-mortem examination is to be carried out in ‘due course’, Metropolitan Police confirmed.

DS Dean Lanfear said: ‘My thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends today as they process the loss of their loved one.

‘At this early stage, no suspect has been arrested and we are keeping an open mind regarding the circumstances of the incident.

‘We understand the concern this incident may cause. Officers are on patrol in the area to provide a visual deterrent and to offer reassurance to residents.

‘If anyone saw or has any information about what happened last night, please contact police. Even the slightest bit of information can help.’
